Village Green Fountain

Village Green Fountain

The unique cast iron fountain in the Village Green appeared in 1905 when the Bainbridge Village Improvement Society undertook the landscaping and improvement of the Village Green. Harrison Beatty personally erected the attractive fountain, which  remained in the park until it could not be repaired, and the Danforth Fountain replaced it in 1962.  A replica of the original Beatty Fountain was also placed at the Beatty home, now Harmonie Hall Antiques.

Memorial Day

A noted feature of the park is its classic white gazebo that hosts concerts by the Bainbridge Old Time Band. Decorated for the seasons by the Jericho Garden Club, this icon of small town life is also a feature of the Memorial Day celebration and a picturesque setting for wedding and prom pictures.

Veteran’s Memorial

The towering Soldiers Monument was added to the Village Green in 1900 and is dedicated to the Union soldiers of Chenango County. A Union soldier stands at the top, and the western side of the monument says, “Erected In Memory Of Those Who Gave Their Lives To Save Their Country By The Hon. Henry A. Clark.”

Saturday morning, Flea market vendors

Saturday morning, Flea market vendors

From Memorial Day until early November, every Saturday morning, flea market vendors come to the Village Green, bringing an ever-changing selection of goods for bargain shoppers. In the early days, farmers driving their livestock to market used the area to overnight their stock so it seems fitting to now see it as an exchange of agricultural and homemade goods.
